The President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Most Rev. Dr. John Onaikan, has called on the Federal Government and the leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to allow good conscience to prevail in the lingering dispute between them.
Dr. Onaikan, who doubles as the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Ecclesiastical Province, made the appeal while speaking to newsmen at Akpulu, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo state.
“I urge the Federal Government and ASUU leadership to allow good conscience to prevail in the current nationwide industrial action embarked upon by lecturers. I urge them to go back and dialogue over the issues raised by the striking lecturers”, Onaikan said.
He regretted that it was the poor masses that are suffering as a result of the protracted strike action and called for its immediate resolution.
Speaking also at a another occasion, the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Dr. Anthony Obinna,

advised the parties not to insist on who should blink first.
“I have a feeling that both parties have gone into ego trip. The warring parties should not insist on who should blink first. They must realize that the education sector is in dire need of redemption”, Obinna said.
