Obama Sends FBI Agents To Nigeria
US President, Barack Obama has approved that that Federal Bureau of Investigation agents be send to Nigeria to help security agents probe the deadly bombings at the Modagishu Barracks in Abuja on New Year’s Eve.
Homeland Security Secretary, Ms Janet Napolitano, who made this known to Fox News on Sunday in Qatar, did not give the number of the FBI agents.
The FBI agents are expected in Nigeria any moment from now.
Napolitano, according to the Associated Press, told Fox that the attacks which left 11 people dead and many wounded showed that international terrorism knows no bounds.
“One thing I think it illustrates is that we live in a world where terrorism is part of the environment. It is unfortunate. And it’s something that we need to be thinking about, we need to be planning for,” she added.
The Homeland Security Secretary explained that there was no evidence at the moment to suggest that there was any link between the Abuja blasts and “anything in the United States”
According to her, what the US had decided to do in the case of Nigeria “is not all that uncommon.”
The FBI is often asked to help with such investigations due to its expertise in evidence collection.
There were also reports on Sunday that the US embassy in Nigeria had directed some of its specialist personnel to assist law enforcement agencies in their investigations.
In a related development, there were indications in Abuja, that the Federal Government has also contacted the Israeli experts from MOSSAD, Israeli Special Intelligence outfit to help unravel those behind the deadly bomb explosions.
