LASU Fees Hike: Fashola Tackled
Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola has been tackled by the PDP governorship candidate, Dr Ade Dosunmu for 700 per cent increase in the tuition fees of Lagos State University. He said it’s not a good measure considering the economic unbalance.
Dosunmu stated that public education, social amenities is still the duty of the government to provide.
Lagos State university tuition fees was increased from N193,000 to N350,000 comparing that with what is paid in other state universities like Gombe state N35,000. Ondo State University N30,000 and Kogi State university N20,000.
He declared, ‘’The indifference of the Lagos State University Authorities in the face of the students’ protest, public outcry and criticisms, amount to betrayal of public trust. May I, therefore, remind the governor as the visitor to LASU that government exists for the people and not the people existing for government. Government remains a social contract between the people and their leaders.
“The ruling elite should, therefore, not forget history but be conscious of how we all benefited from the commitment of past leaders to public trust. The resources of the state constitute our collective patrimony that government holds in trust for us.
‘’I hereby use this medium to appeal to the executive governor of Lagos State to use his good office to cause the university authorities to reverse the hike in fees in order not to defeat the purpose for the establishment of Lagos State University, as envisioned by the founding fathers of the institution
