Sack Okonja Iweala Immediately, NANS Tells Jonathan

The  National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on  Goodluck Jonathan to immediately sack the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who threatened to resign if the Federal Government reverses the pump price.

Mr Victor Mangse, the NANS Public Relations Officer,  told  newsmen that the removal of subsidy had compounded both economic and security situation in the country and called on students to rise to the occasion.

He addressed newsmen alongside other national  executive of the union stating that  the  union dissociated themselves from the position of the national leadership of the association as regards the issue, stating that the office of the NANS president was bigger than an individual.

We the leadership of NANS Zone C and the students of Plateau State want to show  pains and displeasure in the current decision of President Goodluck Jonathan as regards the present removal of fuel subsidy and it is a practical effort  to aggravate the sufferings  of the common man in this great nation; if there are no physical development and changes from the trillions of Naira of our yearly budget, we are very sure that the proceeds gotten from the subsidy removal will make no meaningful change in the Nigerian economy.”

NANS called on all progressively-minded students and civil society groups to resist the decision, asking the president to abide by the resolution of the members of the House of Representatives.
