Nigeria vs Liberia Friendly Match Postphoned
Saturday’s international friendly between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Lone Stars of Liberia has been put off for two weeks at the behest of the FAs of both nations.
However, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) sources said that the on going crisis in the Liberia FA played a big part in the postponement. It was learnt that the two-week extension is to allow the crisis be resolved.
“The Nigeria Football Federation and the Liberia Football Association have both agreed to postpone the friendly match between their senior teams by two weeks, after which circumstances that have necessitated the shift would surely have normalized,” said Musa Amadu, NFF General Secretary. It was also learnt that the home-based team, which was to have prosecuted the friendly, will now be decamped to be recalled when the situation become clearer.“It is only logical that we allow the players go back home.
Remember they have been in camp since last month where they spent Christmas and New Year,” explained the official. On Wednesday, the home-based Eagles showed their mettle when they held Nations Cup-bound Angola to a goalless draw.Nigeria is billed to meet Rwanda next month to kick off their quest to make the next Nations Cup finals in South Africa in 2013.
Before the postponement, the Eagles had been scheduled to leave for Monrovia on Friday.
