Maradona: C.Ronaldo can’t reach Messi’s level

Diego Maradona has sensationally claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo will never reach the level that his compatriot, Lionel Messi, plays. Both forwards had phenomenal seasons with their respective clubs last season, and are hot favourites to win the World Best Footballer, when the plaques are handed out later in the year.

However, Maradona feels that Messi is not in Ronaldo’s league.

“Cristiano Ronaldo will never be of Messi’s level. Lionel doesn’t need Cristiano Ronaldo’s powerful shot. Messi just dribbles towards the goal with the ball at his feet,” Maradona stated to TVR.

“When Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or he told Messi ‘No more second places’. Now silver is the best he can achieve.”

The 1986 World Cup winner couldn’t resist a direct dig at the Portuguese superstar.

“The world’s best player, along with Lionel Messi, seemed frustrated and petulant when playing for Portugal.”

Speaking on the endless comparisons between him and Messi, Maradona said he loved it.

“I don’t really like comparisons. Nevertheless, the comparison with Messi is a beautiful thing. We are both left-footed, Argentine, and brilliant.”
