Okada men beat up High Court judge

A High Court Judge, Justice Ogbogo Ejembi, has dragged four commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada to court for alleged criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass and serious assault.

He was said to have been beaten to a pulp on Wednesday morning while on his way to the High Court Complex in Oturkpo, Benue State.

Eyewitnesses say Ogbogo’s ordeal started when a traffic warden supposedly stopped him and passed an incoming Okada rider who allegedly hit Ogbogo’s car behind.

Ogbogo was reported to have ignored the motorcyclist and drove on but the Okada rider wasn’t having any of it as he followed the judge with three of his colleagues, caught up with him, and beat him up mercilessly.

Witnesses say, “It  took the intervention of passersby who apprehended the four cyclists and the traffic warden and handed them over to the police to save the judge.”

According to the Sunday Vanguard, the Okada rider was later identified as Agbo Athanasius, while his colleagues were Zuzuli Emmanuel, Adam Anthony, and Barnabas Agbaka.

While appearing before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Mrs.Theresa Wergba, all the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.

At the hearing, the prosecution officer, Inspector James Terzungwe, asked the court for an adjournment to afford it more time to conduct further investigation into the case.

Meanwhile, the traffic warden whom observers believe should share in the blame has been confirmed by DSP Daniel Ezeala, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, to be undergoing orderly room trial
