Robin Van Persie finally goes to Manchester United
Manchester United and Arsenal have agreed on a fee for the transfer of Robin van Persie, and the deal should be finalized shortly. According to a statement on the official website of Manchester United, a fee has been agreed and the completion of the deal is subject to United and van Persie agreeing to personal terms.
Van Persie has one year remaining on his contract at Arsenal and issued a statement earlier this summer claiming that he was not going to sign a new contract. He has been linked to both Manchester City and Juventus, as well as United.
Even though United says that personal terms have not yet been agreed, this should be a mere formality for the Red Devils and the Dutch star. There’s no reason to believe that they won’t agree on a contract shortly. Van Persie should be in a United shirt and available to play for them as early as their second game of the season.
Manchester United are now loaded in striker and attacking midfield spots, and are going to struggle to fit most of their top players on the same pitch. They bought Shinji Kagawa earlier in the transfer window, and it’s possible that he’s just been marginalized by this move. Players like van Persie, who scored 37 goals in all competitions last year, aren’t on the transfer list every day. It’s tough to blame Alex Ferguson for pouncing.
