The wait is over, iPhone 8 launches today
The wait is finally coming to an end. After months of rumours and speculation, Apple has scheduled the launch its new iPhone 8 – along with other products – for 10 a.m. Eastern Time today, which is 3pm, Nigerian time.
The launch date fits their usual annual autumn launch of major new products. All major Apple iPhones from the iPhone 5 were launched in September.
Apple is expected to launch “a high-end gadget called the iPhone Edition or perhaps the iPhone X at its new “spaceship” headquarters,” according to Sun UK.
The new iPhone could be more affordable than expected. Rumour has it that the flagship iPhone 8 will start from $850, which is around N305,711.
Others speculate it could go as high as $1,300, which is about N467,558.
Here are some of the new features rumoured to expect in the new iPhone 8.
Facial recognition technology, a brand new screen, and camera, are some that have been generally agreed on by analysts.
Analysts have hinted that the iPhone charging could be going wireless.
While the new iPhone is generally expected to be called ‘iPhone 8,’ it’s not yet confirmed.
Apple is rumoured to be planning to call its next smartphone the iPhone X, a move which will be a break from its traditional numerical naming.
According to Tech Radar, “Iit’s a name that makes some sense, simultaneously highlighting the phone’s high status and giving a nod to it being the tenth anniversary of the iPhone, with X, of course, being the Roman numeral for 10.”
The new iPhone is expected to be larger than the iPhone 7 but smaller than the 7s, measuring 5.65 x 2.79 x 0.298 inches.
The leaked design suggests the “Touch ID” button will appear on the front and that the device will feature the same sort of home button and fingerprint scanner as the current model.
